Hi New Australians!

Hi! We’re Shanan and Nick, Melbourne lovers and local tourism experts. We designed Melbourne Welcome Tours to offer new arrivals to Australia a unique and entertaining orientation of Melbourne, while engendering a real sense of community and welcome.

Both established Australians, as well as new migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and international students, are welcome to come.

Why We Started

My dad Boris immigrated to Australia in 1964 from Croatia. It was a big move for him. He always told me he would have loved a proper introduction to his new home city when he first arrived. Melbourne is a truly world class location these days, home to such a diversity of backgrounds and cultures. I realised this after travelling abroad in search of new experiences overseas:moving back to Melbourne showed me that one of the world’s best-kept secrets was right here in my own backyard, a brilliant, beautiful city with a unique history and sense of culture that ought to be shared with as many newcomers as possible.

Welcome Tours Melbourne

Join us and we’ll spend a great morning exploring the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Melbourne together.

Get to know Melbourne’s unique history, past and present. We’ll cover things like Aboriginal culture, the Gold Rush era, and immigration history, while discovering amazing hidden street art, cosmopolitan café culture and Melbourne’s stunning architecture.

We want to make you feel as welcome and connected as possible to our wonderful city.

Walk This Way Collaborates  with The Welcome Dinner Project to Promote a welcoming experience for new comers to Australia.

The Welcome Dinner Project connects people who are new to Australia with established Australians over a shared meal in a local home. Each dinner is facilitated by two trained volunteers who make sure all guests are comfortable and the host is supported. The dinners are pot-luck - meaning everyone brings a plate of food to share from their culture. The dinners provide inspiration and hope to newcomers and a chance for the community to meet people who they might not ordinarily get to meet. It is an initiaitve of not-for-profit joiningthedots and over 200 dinners have been run around Australia so far.
